Strong is more important than calories
Big engines burn more fuel. And by engines I mean muscles. And by fuel I mean calories. If you want to get ripped and look lean for the summer, there is a simple progression.
- Move well
- Get strong
- Rest hard!
- Do inefficient exercise (which you can do at a greater level than before now, because you are stronger!)
- Rest hard some more
- Some kind of caloric control
- Drink water
- Look awesome!
That’s it.
Seriously.
Ok, it may get a wee bit more difficult ‘towards the end’, but that is the jist of how to look hot for the summer beach season.
How do you know if you’re moving well? Get some sort of movement screen performed by a movement specialist (we like the Functional Movement Screen).
How do you get strong? Multi-joint, compound movements such as squats, deadlifts, pulls and presses (presses can be push ups, overhead press, bench press, etc)
What is inefficient exercise? Something like kettlebell swings and snatches, slam balls, farmer carries, burpees, etc.
What is caloric control? It’s a fancy way of saying ‘watch what you eat’.
How do I know if I’m drinking water?… You need me to answer this one? And cola isn’t water, neither is gin, vodka or irn bru.
That’s it guys, all you need to know!
Move well, move strong, be awesome!
